Tourism Development, Stewardship and Marketing
This session introduces students to the fundamentals of tourism development, stewardship, and marketing, emphasizing the critical role of Destination Management Organizations (DMOs). Students will explore how to identify and understand different tourism markets, create destination plans, develop sustainable tourism products, and craft integrated marketing campaigns. Through real-world case studies featuring Armenia and regional DMOs, participants will gain hands-on experience by assisting a local DMO to develop a new tourism product concept and a destination marketing campaign. By the end of the session, students will be prepared to apply strategic thinking and best practices in tourism development and destination marketing.
By the end of this session, students should be able to:
Explain the structure and function of the tourism industry, including the role of Destination Management Organizations at the local, regional, and national levels
Analyze tourism markets and consumer behavior to identify opportunities and challenges for destination development and stewardship
Evaluate destination stewardship principles and sustainable tourism frameworks to ensure responsible growth and resource management
Develop a tourism product concept that aligns with the destination’s strategic goals and market needs
Design an integrated marketing campaign that leverages traditional, digital, and experiential marketing channels for promoting a destination
Collaborate effectively in teams to produce a comprehensive plan for a real-world DMO client, incorporating research, stakeholder feedback, and best practices
